# Become a Member

Geist VIP Members are first-class onchain citizens, enjoying multiple [benefits](https://docs.playongeist.com/membership/member-benefits) from their onchain activity.

## How to Become a Member

* **Obtain an** [**Invite Code**](#invite-codes)**.**
* **Redeem the Invite code** via the official [Geist](https://playongeist.com) dapp.
* **Choose a unique Geist ID name.** *Note: This name is permanent and cannot be changed later.* 
* **Enjoy your free trial.** Each Membership comes with a seven-day trial, in which the temporary Member will enjoy all benefits of the chain. 
* **(Optional) Extend your Membership.** To remain a member after the trial has ended, you can extend your membership for 30 days, 90 days, or 1 year on the Geist dapp.

**Choose carefully!**

Geist ID names are permanent and cannot be changed later. We also enforce a strict "no squatting" policy. 

Choosing a name specifically to squat on its high-value for the purpose of flipping or trolling may be revoked with no compensation.

## Invite Codes

To become a Member of Geist, you will need an Invite Code. 

**Invite Codes are scarce, by design**, effectively limiting the number of Members that can join the chain at any time. 

### Getting an Invite Code

There are three primary ways to get an Invite Code:

1. **From an Aavegotchi owner.** Aavegotchi owners will receive 1 invite per Aavegotchi they hold during our initial Geist Invite airdrop (snapshot TBA). More Invites may come to Aavegotchi owners in the future. 
2. **Partner Invites.** Official partners and friends of Geist/Aavegotchi will receive Invites for their community. Visit the [Partners](https://docs.playongeist.com/info/partners) section for an up-to-date list of official chain partners. 
3. **Giveaways**. We will occasionally hold Invite giveaways for qualified participants on the official Geist X account or other mediums.

**For Aavegotchi Owners**

All Aavegotchi owners before our Snapshot date (TBA) will automatically receive Geist memberships, plus an Invite Code.

Owning an Aavegotchi **after** the Snapshot date will **not** give Membership.

### Can't Get an Invite?

If you are unable to obtain an Invite by the above methods, there is one more way: applying for an Invite via the Geist dapp. 

Applicants will be judged for acceptance by onchain history, including factors such as:

* Receipt and treatment of previous airdrops 
* Participation in partner communities
* History with onchain gaming  

We recommend <mark style="color:red;">**not**</mark> using a fresh wallet for this application, as it will instantly get rejected.

Applying does not guarantee acceptance, and the acceptance rate will be low.

## Extending Membership

Each new Membership comes with a seven-day free trial. To extend your Membership and ensure continued access to all the [member-benefits](https://docs.playongeist.com/membership/member-benefits "mention"), simply head to the official Geist dapp and top up your Membership using GHST or credit card.&#x20;
